Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation
Multifacetted Project
From the Aegean to the Ionian: A Sea of Knowledge – Preservation, Management, and Promotion of the Historical Archive of the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation
The Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation brings to both national and international audiences the Greek maritime culture, inviting exploration of its diverse facets through the utilization and digital presentation of a significant portion of its collection: Works from the historic libraries of K. Laskaridis and P. Laskaridis, documents from the archive of Admiral Dounis, artworks from the Volanakis Collection, and items from the Maritime Collection are some of the artifacts digitized as part of the project.
Drawing inspiration from this rich archival material, a series of interactive digital and educational applications were developed to attract a wider audience through an experiential and interactive learning and entertainment experience. The applications developed as part of the project represent an attempt to bridge the past with the present and serve as a repository of historical and cultural knowledge for future generations.
Within the framework of this initiative, PostScriptum undertook the digitization, documentation, and promotion of the archival material in the international collection management system MuseumPlus, following international standards compatible with the treasures of the National Documentation Centre and Europeana. Additionally, through the use of new technologies such as virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR), the design and development of interactive digital and educational applications were realized.
The project “From the Aegean to the Ionian: A Sea of Knowledge – Preservation, Management, and Promotion of the Historical Archive of the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation” was implemented through the Operational Program “Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship & Innovation” (EPAnEK) 2014-2020, co-funded by Greece and the European Union (European Regional Development Fund – ERDF).
