An Archive Open to All
Responding to the need for openness, accessibility, and dissemination of the work of C.P. Cavafy, the Onassis Foundation brings the great poet’s work closer to the public in the form of a digital collection.
The Cavafy Archive includes handwritten poems by Cavafy, self-published editions, prose literary texts, articles, studies, and notes by the poet, as well as his personal archive with extensive correspondence, texts, and photographs. Today, anyone can explore the rich archival material through a modern digital collection that offers access to more than 2,000 archival items.
The purpose of the Cavafy Archive is its openness and free access to the archive for the public and researchers, as well as the dissemination of the international character of the poetry of the Alexandrian poet, following its digitization and re-documentation.
As part of this collaboration, PostScriptum contributed to the design and development of digital documentation and presentation tools for Cavafy’s work on the Internet. Following international archival description standards and utilizing the open-source software AtoM, the Archive Management System ArchiveMax was effectively customized to meet the unique documentation needs of this singular project of the Onassis Foundation.
